My passion lies in seeing others succeed, I am so excited to be a part of the Lighthouse family. From a very young age I spent a majority of my time around individuals with various physical and intellectual disabilities. My dad worked in this field and my passion grew quickly as I watched the work he did. Spending a number of hours there as a kid, I eventually began working there when I was 16. I got to know the individuals he supported and learn their stories, I was lucky enough to witness some of the most life changes moments for these people such as their first time walking. Working there I quickly realized I wanted to do work of a similar nature I just wasn’t sure in what capacity that would be.

I volunteered throughout high school, and into university with the Best Buddies program and my passion grew even more. I graduated from university with an honours in Sociology and Indigenous Studies and realized the correlation between my studies and my life experiences with individuals with various exceptionalities. Once realizing how closely related my studies and desired job were I began researching positions that would allow me to help individuals excel while bringing a sense of fulfillment to my life. I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. I unexpectedly had to move back home, and began to search for jobs when an incredible opportunity came my way.

I began working with an 11 year old boy who had a dual diagnosis one of which being Autism, and I quickly realized that was my calling. It was only a matter of days before I realized how much this boy would change my life. I find quite often I refer to various lessons he taught me, and the life skills him and I acquired together. He taught me various tricks and skills to better assist him, he let me pick his brain and ask several questions to which he loved to answer in great detail. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have met, worked and learned from him and thank him for leading me in this direction.

I am so incredibly excited to build relationships and learn from the remarkable students at The Lighthouse Centre!
